READ A BIT ABOUT ME!

WELCOME TO MY CLASSROOM BLOG!

I wish to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Andrea Alworth. I have a Masters in Elementary Education and have been teaching elementary children for over 20 years. I have taught all elementary grade levels (1-5) during my career and have worked as a permanent sub in classes for special education, pre-K and gifted. I worked at OCES for two years as a Title 1/EIP teacher. Now I hold a 3rd grade teaching position. Although I was not one of those people who knew I wanted to be a teacher, I think it was predestined as I have always enjoyed both children and the process of learning. I was a popular babysitter as a teenager, worked with my church helping run the Sunday school program, and worked my way through college as a child care provider for the university daycare program. I received a BA in psychology then completed a year of Graduate School in the School Psychology program before deciding I wanted a more “hands-on” career with children. I then transferred to an Elementary Education graduate program and haven’t looked back since! I have worked with students of all levels of ability during my career, and have a great deal of experience with meeting the needs of various learning styles and different backgrounds. I look forward to working with you and your children this coming school year.

On a more personal note, I read voraciously, when I can manage to locate my reading glasses.  My favorite genres are science fiction and fantasy.  I love to write fiction (when I have time).  I drink a lot of tea, am known for wearing a variety of fun colored shoes, and am always interested in learning new things and considering new ideas.

This quote may sum up the life of a teacher:  "The difficult will be done at once; the impossible may take a little while."
